Moving On

Something that always brings mixed feelings is the moment when clients we have employed move on to work elsewhere as a result of their commitment to working with Glasgow Together. We are always as delighted as they are (well almost!) to see a life changing opportunity come their way but it comes with a hint of sadness to see a valued member of the team move on.

This week we have achieved perhaps our biggest success to date in turning a life around.

Twelve months ago H had never held a job and had continually been in and out of custody from a young age.

Due to H's commitment to work and his efforts to turn his life around we have secured him employment with an expanding Glasgow based bricklaying firm working on the construction of 300 new build properties. They have worked with H on our Montgomerie Road project and following an approach from Glasgow Together have offered him six months as a brickies labourer after which he will move onto a bricklaying squad to learn the trade. They are a very forward thinking socially aware company and share the Glasgow Together ethos ensuring H will be treated just like any other site employee and for the first time in his life he can see a future ahead of him.

H is aware this is the opportunity of a lifetime and is something he could never even have contemplated this time last year. He starts next Monday on the Glasgow Living Wage and was left on site this morning turning cartwheels!
